Building "Hunting Systems" is the foundation of our company. We sell individual items, but our goal is to build you a system perfectly suited for your hunting style, terrain and climate. We use what we consider to be the finest manufactured gear in the industry to create your System, Sitka Mountain Gear, First Lite wool, Kenetrek Boots, MontBell US &
Hilleberg Tents. If necessary we will incorporate other products.
We, the backcountry hunters, have been begging, borrowing and stealing gear from the climbing community for quite sometime. Here at CaptivateM Outdoors you will see the results of that influence and the positive impacts it's made on our hunting style. Sitka Gear brought the first technical gear to hunters, the founders came from a climbing background. The First Lite crew are backcountry ski bums. Hilleberg & Montbell's roots are firmly in the mountaineering community worldwide. We use these products because they are designed by people who live, eat and breathe the backcountry: winter, spring, summer & fall. We are very proud to be associated with each of these manufacturers and we strongly believe each one of them will make a tremendous contribution to your hunt.
Sitka Mountain Gear, in our opinion, is the finest outerwear available. Sitka is using the finest materials and most advanced camo patterns available to produce gear that is made to hunt. SMG's focus since the beginning has been the western hunter. In 2010, SMG has included the whitetail hunters with a line specifically geared toward the treestand hunter including a new camo pattern. This new line is designed to be worn on day hunts and designed to be quiet.
First LIte wool is our choice for all base layers and majority of the insulating layers. We feel that First Lite offers the best product in the business, First Lite is producing wool designed to hunt. The advantages of using wool are very desirable for all outdoorsmen, the quality of wool from First Lite is second to none. Why wool? First, this is Merino wool. Merino wool fibers are some of the finest found in nature. It is the tiny diameter of the fibers that allows it to be worn directly next to the skin with no irritation or itch. The composition of wool makes it warm, water-repellent, odor resistant, flame retardant, durable, anti-static and a UV protector. For us, the hunters, the greatest advantages of wool are it wicks, it insulates when wet and it doesn't stink after multiple days of use. Please read those three things again. It wicks. It insulates when wet. It doesn't trap odor, no stinky base layers.
GoreTex and Wool are two materials that are underrated and misunderstood by a majority of us. Trust us, these are the items you want to rely on to protect you when the time comes. *Please do not wear cotton and/or poly under your wool layers, this will prevent the wool from performing it's task. If you wear cotton t-shirts or boxers under the wool that clammy feeling will never go away.
Kenetrek Boots are our choice of footwear. They offer a great selection of boots that cover any need and customer service second to none. Rugged terrain and severe weather can make hunting in the backcountry brutal, but even the toughest of expeditions can become more enjoyable if you take good care of your feet. Because we depend on our gear so much in our outdoor pursuits, we decided to build your system with Kenetrek Boots, a line of footwear that promises reliability and uncompromising performance. Boots built “For the Trail Less Traveled”, by punishing every product through a rigorous test phase, we know you’ll find total quality and performance with our products because we already have. Underlying all of these criteria is one more: low weight. Building a reliable, easy to use, comfortable, versatile and durable tent is difficult, but not outrageously so. Encompassing these elements within a strict weight limit, however, is a unique challenge. Meeting that challenge, creating the best balance of ALL of these standards is at the heart of every Hilleberg tent.
MontBell America focuses on "Light & Fast" and does so without compromising on quality, durability of function. The definition of what is functional can very broad. It naturally depends on the products intended usage, user specific requirements and circumstances. MontBell takes this issue seriously and tries to develop a well balanced and wide range of products that can be used in extreme conditions for different intended uses. The range and depth of products offered is what makes MontBell extremely appealing to us as backcountry hunters.
Hilleberg The Tentmaker. For us, the ideal tent is a blend of a few, very straightforward principles: reliability - your being able to depend on your tent, no matter what; ease of use - being able to pitch it easily, even in high winds, in the dark, alone, and while wearing heavy gloves; comfort - its livability, including the obvious, such as fully waterproof outer tents and floors, as well as the subtle essentials, like optimal venting and intelligent ergonomic solutions; versatility -its capability for competently handling any and all environmental and weather condition, from the most benign to the most heinous; and durability -its capacity for standing up to use in all of those conditions for a long, long time.
